Shanghai Port, located in the middle of the Chinese mainland coastline and at the mouth of the Yangtze River, is not only a major hub on the Chinese coast, but also one of the world’s famous ports. With its perfect construction and operation system, its import and export trade volume accounts for nearly 20% of the country’s major coastal ports. In the first half of 2022, Shanghai Port ranked first and top four with a cargo throughput of 314 million tons and a container throughput of 22.54 million TEUs. Its importance is self-evident.
▍ Comprehensive advantages of Guangzhou Port
Guangzhou Port, as a comprehensive hub port in South China, is also the largest container trunk port in South China. It consists of seaports and inland ports, with a global route network and a wide range of business. In 2016, Guangzhou Port ranked first in South China, fourth in domestic coastal ports, and sixth in global ports with a cargo throughput of 544 million tons, with remarkable achievements.
▍ The long history and strength of Qingdao Port
Qingdao Port, located on the shore of Jiaozhou Bay on the Shandong Peninsula, has a profound historical heritage of 125 years. As a key state-owned enterprise in China, it is not only China’s second foreign trade port with a throughput of 100 million tons, but also an important international trade port and maritime transportation hub on the west coast of the Pacific Ocean. Its port has wide and deep waters and is navigable all year round. It is a famous excellent port in my country. In 2016, Qingdao Port ranked fourth in the world with a cargo throughput of 513.3754 million tons, and its strength should not be underestimated.
▍ Infrastructure achievements of Tianjin Port
Tianjin Port, located at the intersection of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration and the Bohai Rim Economic Circle, is an important comprehensive port and foreign trade port in northern China. It has advanced infrastructure and a complete operating system, including an artificial deep-water port, a port coastline of 32.7 kilometers, and multiple port areas. With its strong cargo flow and throughput, Tianjin Port has been ranked among the top ten ports in the world for many years and has become an important engine for the development of China’s marine economy.
▍ International business expansion of Dalian Port
Dalian Port, as the eighth largest seaport in China, is located in Dalian Bay at the southern end of Liaodong Peninsula. The port is wide and deep, and it does not freeze in winter, allowing 10,000-ton cargo ships to pass unimpeded. Dalian Port is not only the most important comprehensive foreign trade port in Northeast China, but also one of China’s major container sea-rail transport and maritime transit ports. Dalian Port, which has established maritime economic and trade shipping relations with more than 160 countries and regions and more than 300 ports in the world, completed a cargo throughput of 355 million tons in 2016.
▍ Green Port Project of Shenzhen Port
Shenzhen Port, located in the southern part of the Pearl River Delta in Guangdong Province, is an excellent natural harbor in South China. Since its construction began in the 1980s, Shenzhen Port has continued to expand, and in 2003 it began sea-rail transport. In recent years, Shenzhen Port has launched the “Shenzhen Combined Port-Green Port Chain” project and ranked third in global cargo throughput for four consecutive years. Its eight major port areas cover the world’s twelve major shipping areas, and its container throughput has reached 26.5477 million TEUs.
▍ The key position of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port
Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, as a key link in China’s foreign trade industry chain and supply chain, is located in the middle of the Chinese mainland coastline and is one of the ports with the most giant ships entering and leaving. It is not only one of the world’s five largest ports, but also the port with the largest cargo throughput and the third largest container throughput in China. Its total area is 9,365 square kilometers, and its geographical location is unique. It is connected to Hangzhou Bay in the north, Shaoxing in the west, Taizhou in the south, and Zhoushan across the sea in the northeast. At the same time, Zhoushan is also an important base for the production, processing and sales of marine products in China. In 2016, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port completed a total container throughput of 21.56 million TEUs, with remarkable achievements.
▍ The resource transportation capacity of Tangshan Port
Tangshan Port, located on the southeast coast of Tangshan City, Hebei Province, is an important regional port. It undertakes the specialized transportation of bulk materials such as energy and raw materials, and is an important gateway for the economic development of Hebei Province, Beijing, North China and parts of Northwest China. Tangshan Port has smooth sea routes with ore exporting countries such as Australia, Brazil, Peru, South Africa and India. In 2016, the cargo throughput reached 520.1342 million tons, and its strength should not be underestimated.
▍ The regional support role of Suzhou Port
Suzhou Port, as an important container trunk port in Jiangsu Province, is located in the throat area of the Yangtze River estuary. It is formed by the merger of Taicang Port, Changshu Port and Zhangjiagang Port, with a cargo throughput of 605 million tons. It is not only an important support for the opening up of the Yangtze River Delta, but also an important platform for the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River and the development of the western region. In 2022, Suzhou Port will complete a cargo throughput of 554 million tons and a container throughput of 6.29 million TEUs, with a strong growth momentum.
▍ Comprehensive development of Rizhao Port
Rizhao Port, located in the middle of China’s coastline and the southern wing of Shandong Peninsula, is one of the major coastal ports that China focuses on developing. It faces Japan, South Korea and North Korea across the sea and has a superior geographical location. In 2021, Rizhao Port completed an annual cargo throughput of 541.17 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 9.1%, with remarkable achievements. As one of China’s industrial and agricultural tourism demonstration sites, Rizhao Port not only has outstanding performance in logistics, but is also one of the highlights of industrial and agricultural tourism in the country.
▍ Northeast sea access of Yingkou Port
Yingkou Port, as an important comprehensive main hub port in the country, is the most convenient sea access for the Northeast and eastern Inner Mongolia, and is also the largest cargo transportation port in the region. Yingkou Port Co., Ltd. is responsible for its operation and has several port areas under its jurisdiction. The port has established extensive shipping business connections with more than 50 countries and regions around the world. In 2016, the cargo throughput reached an astonishing 352.1713 million tons, which had a profound impact on the economic development and international trade in the Northeast.
▍ Modern facilities of Xiamen Port
Xiamen Port, located at the mouth of the Jiulong River in southern Fujian Province, is one of China’s important ports. It has a unique geographical location and is connected to more than 60 ports in 40 countries and regions. The port facilities are modernized, not only suitable for the development of tourism, but also carry multiple functions such as transportation, transshipment, transit and trade. In addition, Xiamen Port is also equipped with advanced unloading machinery and equipment, as well as modern cranes, port cranes, etc., mainly carrying the transportation of cement, fertilizers, sugar, wheat or coal. As an important gateway to China’s southeastern sea, Xiamen Port has a long history of opening and has witnessed the prosperity and development of China’s maritime trade.
▍ Steel Logistics Base of Ma’anshan Port
Ma’anshan Port, located in Ma’anshan City, Anhui Province, is one of the top ten ports on the Yangtze River. Since its establishment in 1989, the port has rapidly developed into an important steel circulation base in my country with its superior geographical location, complete facilities and efficient loading and unloading capabilities. Its total berth length, number of productive berths and number of loading and unloading machinery are all at the forefront of the industry, and the cargo throughput is also considerable. The prosperous development of Ma’anshan Port has not only promoted the economic take-off of Anhui’s eastern gate, but also provided strong logistics support for the steel industry in the region.
▍ Jiujiang Port’s status as a logistics hub
Jiujiang Port, as the largest water transport terminal port in Jiangxi Province and one of the top ten terminals on the Yangtze River, is located in Jiujiang City in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. It is located at the intersection of the golden waterway Yangtze River and the Beijing-Kowloon Railway, and has a unique transportation location. As one of the main hub ports of the national inland river, Jiujiang Port is the only national first-class port in Jiangxi Province that connects rivers and seas, and has played an important role in promoting the economic and transportation development of Jiangxi Province. Its cargo throughput and container completion in 2016 also fully demonstrated its status as a logistics hub in the region.
▍ Hong Kong Port’s international logistics center
Hong Kong Port, ranked among the top ten ports in China, is Hong Kong’s core container logistics processing center. Here, more than 80 international liners provide about 500 container liner services per week, closely connecting Hong Kong Port with more than 500 destinations around the world. The throughput of Hong Kong Port is as high as 490 million tons, ranking ninth in the world. Located in the eastern part of the outer side of the Pearl River Estuary, it is not only a transportation hub between my country and the Indochina Peninsula and South Asia, but also one of the busiest ports in the world. Victoria, Hong Kong’s Ji’ao and other 15 port areas together constitute the Hong Kong Port, among which Victoria Port has the largest construction scale and the best conditions. In 2021, its annual container throughput is about 20.26 million TEUs, continuing to sit firmly on the ninth throne in the world.
▍ The energy export mission of Qinhuangdao Port
Qinhuangdao Port, a natural ice-free port located in Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province, is a shining pearl in northern China. Its coast is tortuous, the port is wide and the water is deep, and 10,000-ton cargo ships can shuttle freely. As the world’s largest energy export port, Qinhuangdao Port carries the coal supply mission of “eight provinces and one city” in southern China. The completion of the third phase of its coal terminal project has made it a comprehensive port mainly engaged in coal and oil exports. In 2016, the cargo throughput of Qinhuangdao Port reached an astonishing 186.8431 million tons.

Yantai Port, located in Zhifu Bay on the north side of Shandong Peninsula, is one of the 25 important hub ports along the coast of China.
